Alvarez Claims Consolation Champion Title at ITA Central Sectional

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team completed their campaign at the ITA Central Sectional tournament on Sunday.

Junior Luis Alvarez earned the title of consolation champion after sweeping the consolation draw. He took a loss in the first round of the main draw to Michigan's Patorn Hanchaikul, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6. He went on to take straight-set wins over players from TCU, Michigan State, Ohio State and Baylor to claim the consolation champion title.

Alvarez and doubles partner Asahi Harazaki took a win in the first round over TCU's Filip Apltauer and Julian Alonso, 6-2, 6-3. The pair then fell to Rice's Kabeer Kapasi and Arthus de la Bassetierre, 4-6, 6-3, 11-3.

Junior Bruno Nhavene competed in the singles bracket and dropped his first match to head to the consolation bracket. He took another loss in the consolation draw to complete his competition.

Sophomore Harazaki played one match in singles, an extra match, and topped Nebrasks's Anton Shepp, 0-6, 6-3, 11-9.

Next, three Sooners head to Waco, Texas for the NCAA Individual Championships from November 19-24. Senior Jordan Hasson and freshman Oscar Lacides qualified in singles while Lacides and Nhavene will compete in doubles.
