NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 22 Oklahoma men's tennis team (14-9, 7-7 SEC) came up short in its final match of the season against Vanderbilt (12-13, 4-10 SEC).
The Sooners swiftly claimed their 20th doubles win to kick off the final competition of the season. Sophomore
Kholo Montsi and junior
Luis Alvarez swept their opponents, 6-0, to improve their season record to 17-2 with 10 SEC victories. The No. 26 pair of
Bruno Nhavene and
Oscar Lacides sealed the doubles point for OU when they won, 6-4, at the primary spot. The Sooners debuted a new pairing at the three line, seeing freshman
Orel Kimhi team up with senior
Jordan Hasson. The duo were ahead, 5-4, when play was stalled.
First off the court was Alvarez, dropping his match, 4-6, 2-6. Soon after, Montsi reclaimed the lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win. The match tied once again when Lacides fell, 3-6, 4-6, on court one. KimhiĀ put the Sooners up 3-2 when he took his tenth win of the season, 6-4, 6-4, at the four position.
Due to construction, the match was played on four courts. Once the first four matches concluded, Hasson and freshman
Alejandro Melero took the court to begin their matches.Ā
Both Sooners went into first-set tiebreaks to start, falling short with Hasson falling behind, 6-7(7), and Melero trailing 6-7(5). Hasson lost his match, 6-7(7), 3-6, and Vanderbilt tied the match at 3-all. The match concluded when Melero fell, 6-7(5), 3-6, and the Commodores claimed the final point of the match.
