Sooners Top LSU, Advance in SEC Championship

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Oklahoma men's tennis team (15-9, 7-7 SEC) is advancing in the SEC Men's Tennis Championships after defeating LSU (12-18, 1-14 SEC), 4-1.

The Sooners posted another dominant doubles showing with wins at the one and three lines. No. 10 duo Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene took a quick 6-1 win to give OU an advantage, settingĀ freshman Alejandro Melero and sophomore Asahi HarazakiĀ up for the clinching point, 6-3. When play was stalled, sophomore Kholo Montsi and junior Luis Alvarez trailed 3-4 on court two.

The Tigers briefly tied the match at 1-all when Montsi came up short at the primary singles position, 0-6, 4-6. Soon after, LacidesĀ put Oklahoma back ahead with a win at the two line, 6-4, 6-0, shutting out his opponent in the second set.

Alvarez extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the three position, marking his 10th SEC win of the season. Harazaki competed at the six singles line and delivered the clinching point over the Tigers once again, 6-3, 7-5.

Freshman Orel Kimhi and senior Jordan Hasson remained on court for the Sooners, with Kimhi's match stalling atĀ 6-2, 3-6, 3-1 and Hasson's match going unfinished,Ā 6-3, 6-6.

No. 10 Oklahoma faces No. 7 Georgia in the next round of the SEC Men's Tennis Championships on Thursday, April 17, at 5 p.m. CT for a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
