No. 22 Sooners Fall to No. 5 Longhorns Thursday Night

NORMAN -- The No. 22 Oklahoma men's tennis team came up short against the top-5 Longhorns in front of a home crowd Thursday evening.

The lone point for the Sooners came in doubles competiton, where No. 25 duo Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene upset the No. 6 pair from Texas, 6-3 on court one. Sophomore Kholo Montsi and junior Luis Alvarez won their 15th match of the season, 6-4, at the two line to clinch the doubles point. The doubles win tallied Oklahoma's 16th of the season. After going ahead 5-3 on their opponents, freshman Alejandro Melero and sophomore Asahi HarazakiĀ trailed 5-6 when play was stalled.

In singles, Oklahoma had three promising starts. Alvarez won his first set, 6-4, freshman Orel Kimhi went ahead 6-2 and Nhavene battled at the six line to send his first set into a 5-7 result.

Lacides was first off the court after dropping his match to No. 2 Timo Legout, 3-6, 3-6 at the primary spot. With the score tied at 1-all, Montsi fell short on court two, 1-6, 4-6, after putting up a fight in the second set. Texas had its first lead of the match when senior Jordan Hasson came up short, 2-6, 2-6. Nhavene ultimately lost hisĀ match, 5-7, 4-6, to give Texas the clinching point.

When matches were abandoned, Alvarez trailed in the second set, 6-4, 3-4 and Kimhi had begun a third set, 6-2, 2-6, 0-1.
