AUSTIN, Texas – Despite a late rally, the No. 12 Oklahoma women's tennis team fell to No. 11 Texas, 4-3, at the Texas Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

Friday's meeting was the 46th installment of the Red River Rivalry but the first in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

OU opened the match by dropping their fourth doubles point of the season. Finishing first, UT's No. 63 Ashon Bowers and Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo defeated Alina Shcherbinina and Chloé Noël (6-2) at the top court. Following closely behind, No. 53 Gloriana Nahum and Salakthip Ounmuang fell (6-2) to Carmen Andrea Herea and Eszter Meri on court three, securing the opening point for the Longhorns.

Adding to their lead in singles, UT's No. 25 Andrea Herea delivered a quick 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 64 Emma Staker on court four.

Next, Nahum got the Sooners on the board as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 54 Anazagasty-Pursoo. It was the sixth straight-set victory for the freshman from Cotonou, Benin.

Grabbing the second singles win for the Longhorns at the top court, No. 104 Bowers took down No. 33 Shcherbinina, 6-4, 6-0.

A consistent bright spot in the middle of the Sooners' lineup, Ounmuang notched OU's next win against No. 107 Vivian Ovrootsky, 6-3, 7-5 for the freshman's first collegiate ranked win.

A gutsy 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback win on court five by No. 105 Catanzarite over Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz would even up the team score for the first and only time.

The Sooner rally fell short moments later on court two as No. 124 Eszter Meri clinched the match for Texas with a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 12 Garcia Ruiz.

UP NEXT

The Sooners will take a short trip east for a rematch with No. 5 Texas A&M on Sunday. First serve against the Aggies is set for 12 p.m. CT at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
