BATON ROUGE, La. – The eighth-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team secured its fourth top-10 win of the season with a 4-1 victory over No. 10 LSU on Sunday at the LSU Tennis Complex.
The win marked Oklahoma's first all-time victory over LSU in their inaugural meeting as SEC opponents.
For the third time this season, Oklahoma (16-5, 9-4 SEC) earned a victory despite dropping the doubles point.
LSU took early momentum in doubles as Tilwith Di Girolami and Gaby Rivera opened with a 6-1 win over Ava Catanzarite and Gloriana Nahum on court three. At the top court, No. 7 Cadence Brace and Kayla Cross clinched the point for the Tigers with a 6-3 win over No. 84 Alina Shcherbinina and Julia Garcia Ruiz.
For the second consecutive match, No. 19 Garcia Ruiz sparked Oklahoma's singles rally, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Di Girolami on court two. The junior and 2024 NCAA semifinalist has now won three straight matches in straight sets.
Catanzarite followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kenna Erickson on court five, earning her team-leading 13th dual win of the season.
Following closely behind, No. 51 Emma Staker added the Sooners' third point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kinna Graham. The Tulsa native leads the SEC with 11 wins this spring at the No. 4 singles position.
No. 121 Salakthip Ounmuang clinched the match for Oklahoma with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Anita Sahdiieva on court three, marking her second clinch of the season.
When play was halted, LSU's No. 24 Brace held a narrow third-set lead over No. 31 Shcherbinina (4-6, 6-3, 2-1) at the top court, while Nahum was leading Rivera 6-7(5), 6-2, 1-0 on court six.
The Sooners will return to Norman to begin their final homestand against No. 73 Mississippi State on Friday, April 11. First serve is set for 5 p.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The match will feature Oklahoma's annual Bark in the Park event, allowing fans to enjoy the action alongside their canine companions.
