Sooners Wrap Up Play in North Carolina, Milwaukee

NORMAN – Roisin Gilheany and Salakthip Ounmuang claimed Oklahoma's first doubles title of the fall as the squad wrapped up the opening weekend of competition at the Milwaukee Classic and ITA-All American Championships.

The duo won four straight matches in the main draw to become the first Sooner pairing to take home a doubles title at the Milwaukee Classic since Oleksandra Korashvili and Jasmine Asghar were crowned champions in 2019.

In the championship match, Gilheany and Ounmuang defeated Maeve Thornton and Vanesa Suarez of Tennessee, 6-3.

In the singles draw, freshmen Gloriana Nahum and Emma Ghirardato picked up their first collegiate wins in their Sooner debut. Nahum led the way for OU, earning back-to-back victories in the main draw before dropping her quarterfinal match to Thornton (Tennessee), 5-7, 4-6.

After dropping their first-round match in the doubles main draw of the ITA-All American Championships, the No. 22 doubles team of Julia Garcia Ruiz and Chloé Noël rattled off three consecutive ranked wins to reach the consolation doubles final, where they were defeated by UC Santa Barbara's No. 35 Amelia Honer and Anna-Marie Wessheim, 2-6, 4-6.

No. 56 Alina Shcherbinina also made a run in the consolation bracket, adding three top-40 wins to her resume, highlighted by a 7-6(4), 7-6(5), straight-set win over No. 20 Mia Kupres (Texas A&M).

The Sooners will be back in action Oct. 4-6 for the SMU Invite in Dallas, Texas.
