NORMAN – The No. 8 Oklahoma women's tennis team returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center this weekend for a pair of key SEC matchups. The Sooners will host No. 27 South Carolina on Friday, March 27 at 5 p.m. CT before welcoming No. 1 Georgia on Sunday, March 29 at noon.
Friday's match against South Carolina will serve as Hawaiian Night, with fans receiving free leis.
Sunday's clash with Georgia will be a pink out, with fans encouraged to wear pink. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive free white hats featuring a pink OU logo.
All home matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center are free to the public, with a clear bag policy in place. Fans can follow along through live stats or by watching on PlaySight.
Oklahoma enters the weekend on a seven-match winning streak after back-to-back 4-1 road victories over Mississippi State and Alabama. The Sooners continued their dominance in doubles, securing the opening point in both matches for the 18th and 19th time this season.
At Mississippi State, the doubles point was clinched by freshmen Evialina Laskevich and Edda Mamedova, while senior Julia Garcia Ruiz delivered the match-clinching singles win at court three.
At Alabama, Laskevich delivered the clinching singles victory after strong doubles performances from Laskevich/Mamedova and Garcia Ruiz/Ounmuang. The weekend boosted Laskevich's singles record to 10-3 this spring and her doubles record with Mamedova to 9-1, while Garcia Ruiz reached 89 career singles wins, moving into ninth in OU history.
Oklahoma jumped one spot to No. 8 in the latest ITA rankings.
In singles, senior Julia Garcia Ruiz leads the Sooners at No. 40, followed by freshman Evialina Laskevich at No. 41 and freshman Edda Mamedova at No. 72. Oklahoma also continues to boast one of the nation's top doubles lineups, with Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum holding the No. 1 ranking nationally, Laskevich and Mamedova at No. 30, and Garcia Ruiz and Oyinlomo Quadre at No. 51.
Freshman Evialina Laskevich, a native of Minsk, Belarus, played a pivotal role in Oklahoma's recent road victories. She went undefeated in singles last weekend, opening with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Mississippi State's Gianna Oboniye before clinching the Alabama match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 73 Kristina Paskauskas. Laskevich also excelled in doubles alongside fellow freshman Edda Mamedova, posting 6-1 and 6-3 wins over Mississippi State and Alabama duos, respectively. She has consistently delivered at the top of the lineup, turning in an impressive freshman campaign at No. 1 singles.
Following the weekend homestand, Oklahoma will return to the road to face Vanderbilt on April 2 at 5 p.m., then travel to Missouri for an April 4 matchup at 12 p.m.
