Sooners Fall to Pepperdine in NCAA Super Regional

NORMAN – The No. 6 Oklahoma women's tennis team saw its season come to an end Friday evening, falling 4-3 to No. 11 Pepperdine in the Super Regional of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners finished the season 25-6 (13-2 SEC) and notched the second-highest single-season win total in program history. The NCAA appearance marked the seventh under head coach Audra Cohen.

Pepperdine secured the doubles point to open the match with wins on courts one and two. Oklahoma's lone doubles victory came on court three, where Julia Garcia Ruiz and Salakthip Ounmuang earned a 6-1 win over Duru Soke and Shihomi Leong. Following doubles, the match saw a three-hour, 15-minute weather delay before resuming with singles play.

The Sooners picked up singles victories from No. 10 Evialina Laskevich, No. 60 Julia Garcia Ruiz and Chloé Noël. Laskevich battled past No. 40 Ziva Falkner 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 on court one, while Garcia Ruiz cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 35 Anastasiia Grechkina on court three. Noël added a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 victory over No. 121 Duru Soke on court five.

Pepperdine earned singles wins on courts two, four and six to clinch the match. No. 48 Sonja Zhiyenbayeva outlasted No. 37 Edda Mamedova 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-4 on court two in the deciding match. Chantal Sauvant defeated Salakthip Ounmuang 6-1, 6-4 on court four, while Alexia Harmon topped Gloriana Nahum 6-2, 7-5 on court six.
