NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen and the Sooners announced the addition of Ekaterina "Katya" Maklakova to the 2026-27 roster on Thursday.
Maklakova, a native of Yekaterinburg, Russia, joins Oklahoma with extensive professional experience. She has reached career-high WTA rankings of No. 366 in singles and No. 256 in doubles while capturing seven professional titles throughout her career.
"We've worked to recruit Katya for many years, and we couldn't be more excited that she's chosen to join the Oklahoma family," Cohen said. "We're grateful she's placing her trust in our program and giving us the opportunity to be part of her journey. We believe Oklahoma is a place where she can continue to grow — not only as a world-class tennis player, but also as a person. Our goal is to provide her with every resource and opportunity to maximize her potential and give herself a genuine chance to succeed on the professional tour. We can't wait to see what she accomplishes in crimson and cream."
Maklakova enjoyed one of the most successful stretches of her career in 2025, claiming titles at the W15 Astana and W15 Shymkent events. Her success in both singles and doubles has helped her climb the professional rankings and establish herself as a top newcomer to the collegiate ranks this season.
"This year, I decided that something needed to change, and that's why I decided to go to OU," Maklakova said. "I think it will be a very good and productive time in the U.S. I believe it will help me improve my game and my mind. I'm really looking forward to meeting my team and coaches."
The Sooners will return to the court this fall after one of the most successful seasons in program history. Oklahoma captured a share of its first SEC regular-season championship in 2026, finishing 25-5 overall and advancing to the NCAA Super Regional round. The Sooners will open the 2026-27 campaign this fall, with a schedule to be announced at a later date.
