No. 8 OU Extends Win Steak to 10 with Road Victory at No. 11 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 8 Oklahoma women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 10 matches with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over No. 11 Vanderbilt on Thursday evening at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.

With the win, the Sooners improve to 20-4 overall and 10-2 in SEC play, while also securing their sixth top-25 victory of the season.

Oklahoma opened strong in doubles, claiming the opening point. Julia Garcia Ruiz and Salakthip Ounmuang set the tone with a 6-2 win over Mia Yamakita and Erin Pearce at the No. 3 position, improving to 16-2 together this spring and extending their winning streak to eight matches.

After Vanderbilt evened the doubles score at court two, the nation's top-ranked duo of Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over No. 5 Celia-Belle Mohr and Sophia Webster at the No. 1 spot. The pair improved to 4-0 this spring and 13-2 overall.

In singles play, Vanderbilt struck first with a straight-set win at the No. 4 position to even the match at 1-1. No. 60 Garcia Ruiz quickly responded, giving Oklahoma a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Pearce at court three.

Ounmuang then extended the Sooners' lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Webster at court five, improving to 12-3 in singles this spring.

The Commodores answered at the No. 2 position, pulling within one at 3-2 with a three-set win.

Nahum delivered the clinch, battling back for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Trinetra Vijaykumar to secure the match for Oklahoma. Nahum improved to 12-1 in singles this spring with the win.

Following the clinch, play continued on court one, where Vanderbilt's No. 14 Bridget Stammel defeated No. 10 Evialina Laskevich, 2-6, 7-6 (9), 6-4.

Oklahoma will continue its road swing Saturday, traveling to Columbia to face Missouri. First serve is set for noon CT.
