Women’s Tennis Heads to Tulsa for Saturday Road Match

NORMAN – The No. 6 Oklahoma women's tennis team will travel to Tulsa for a non-conference matchup against the Golden Hurricane on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. First serve is set for 12 p.m. CT.

Saturday's meeting marks the second consecutive season that Oklahoma and Tulsa have faced off. Last year, the Sooners earned a 6-1 victory over the Golden Hurricane in Norman.

LAST TIME OUT

Oklahoma is coming off a strong opening stretch to the spring season, including a sweep of the Norman Regional at ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Sooners earned a 4-0 win over Memphis before defeating No. 9 Stanford, 4-1, to punch their ticket to the ITA National Indoor Championships.

SOONERS IN THE RANKINGS

Oklahoma enters the weekend ranked No. 6 nationally as a team.

Individually, Julia Garcia Ruiz is ranked No. 24 in singles. In doubles, the Sooners feature three ranked pairs: Gloriana Nahum and Roisin Gilheany at No. 1, Julia Garcia Ruiz and Oyinlomo Quadre at No. 32, and the duo of Chloé Noël and Nahum at No. 45.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Freshman Laura Brunkel has made an immediate impact for the Sooners early in the spring season. The Copenhagen, Denmark, native enters the weekend with a perfect 7-0 overall record, including a 5-0 mark in doubles and a 2-0 record in singles play. Most recently competing out of the No. 3 doubles spot alongside sophomore Gloriana Nahum, the pair has helped Oklahoma remain unbeaten in doubles this season, with the Sooners posting a 12-0 team record.

UP NEXT

Following Saturday's match, Oklahoma will turn its focus to the ITA National Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 6–9 in Champaign, Ill. The Sooners' next home contest is set for Feb. 22 against Arkansas at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
