Oklahoma Cruises Past Missouri in SEC Home Opener

NORMAN – The No. 14 Oklahoma women's tennis team swept No. 69 Missouri, 4-0, in its SEC home opener at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday night.

It marked OU's fifth ranked win of the season and 29th over Missouri all-time.

The Sooners came out sharp on Friday, claiming their first doubles point since Feb. 8. Head coach Audra Cohen debuted three new doubles pairs and saw Ava Catanzarite and Gloriana Nahum deliver quickly to give OU an advantage with a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. Following closely behind, Salakthip Ounmuang and Chloé Noël defeated Inah Canete and Andrea Artimedi on court two (6-1) to clinch the doubles point for OU.

No. 74 Emma Staker got the singles rally started for the Crimson and Cream with a straight-set victory over Andrea Artimedi (6-0, 6-1) on court four.

On court one, No. 34 Alina Shcherbinina secured the third point after beating Mary Brumfield (6-1, 6-2). The win marked Alina's second dual win at the top spot after starting the spring in the No. 2 position.

Notching her team-leading eighth singles win and clinching the match for the Sooners, Catanzarite delivered with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Gian Octa at the five spot.

The Sooners return to the court on Sunday against No. 16 Vanderbilt. First serve from the Headington Family Tennis Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. Ace shirts, posters, roster cards and yell sheets will be provided to fans entering the tennis facility until supplies last for both matches. Free bagels will also be available.
