Sooners Take Down No. 6 UCLA at ITA Indoors

February 07, 2025 | Women's Tennis

URBANA, Ill. – The No. 12 Oklahoma women's tennis team (6-0) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-2 win over No. 6 UCLA (3-1) on Friday afternoon at Illinois' Atkins Tennis Center. It's the third time the Sooners have made it to the quarterfinals of the National Team Indoors since their inaugural appearance in 2022.

Facing early adversity, the Sooners dropped the doubles point for the first time this season as the Bruins took a 1-0 lead into singles play. Gloriana Nahum and Salakthip Ounmuang posted the lone OU win, a 6-3 match over No. 30 Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and Ahmani Guichard. The dynamic freshmen duo is now 5-0 in dual play.

Heading into their toughest singles matchups of the season, the Sooners rose to the challenge. No. 13 Julia Garcia Ruiz got it started for the Crimson & Cream with a straight-set victory over Kimmi Hance (6-2, 6-2) at the top court. The Bruins notched their only singles win at the three spot, as No. 53 Elise Wagle defeated No. 103 Ounmuang (6-3, 6-3). On court five, No. 114 Nahum secured the third point after beating Guichard (6-4, 6-4). The remaining matches went into three sets, but sealing the deal against her former team was No. 91 Ava Catanzarite on court six defeating Olivia Center (7-6(5), 6-1).

Oklahoma will face No. 7 Michigan tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 8) in the quarterfinals at noon CST.
