No. 8/14 Sooners Secure Top Marks on Day One

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field team wrapped up a successful first day of the Tyson Invitational, held at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Meanwhile, the Sooners' men's distance squad competed at the Husky Classic in Seattle, with both groups delivering top performances in program history.
 
To open the Arkansas meet, Jasmine Akins broke her own long jump school record with a 6.63m (21'9.00") leap on her fifth attempt. Akins becomes one of only five women in Oklahoma history to jump over 21 feet. Her mark is No. 13 in the world, No. 6 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the SEC in 2025.
 
Jenna James recorded a lifetime-best 53.68 in the women's 400-meter open section for first place and the No. 7 spot on OU's all-time performance list.
 
In the men's long jump invitational, Nikaoli Williams posted a season-best 8.02m (26'3.75") to earn second place, the highest finish by a collegian. He improves his position at No. 3 in the NCAA and No. 2 in the SEC.
 
Koryee Wyatt competed in the men's 60-meter invitational section, advancing through prelims (6.72) and semifinals (6.67). Versus a limited field in the final, Wyatt finished second with a time of 6.77.
 
In Arkansas, Leah Jeruto capped the Friday session for the Sooners with a PR of 9:03.04 in the women's 3,000m, improving to No. 2 on OU's all-time performance list.
 
In Seattle, freshman Shadrack Kiptoo broke the men's 5,000-meter run school record with a career-best 13:22.14. In the same race, teammate Ronald Ngetich secured a PR of 13:44.66 for the fourth-best time in Oklahoma history. In their respective 3,000m and 5,000m races, Jack Vincent, Nicholas Young, Evans Biwott and Colin Caso also registered personal records.
 
Day two of the Tyson Invitational is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's pole vault. The women's 5,000-meter run will kick off running events for the Sooners at 11:05 a.m.
