No. 12/17 Sooners Wrap Up Visit to California, Complete First Day at Baylor

WACO, Texas – The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field team concluded a successful three-day trip to California late Friday night. A select group of combined events athletes impressed at Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., while several distance runners posted standout performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Additional Sooners kicked off the first day of the Michael Johnson Invitational, held at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.

The Sooners collected two school records from the distance group Wednesday night. Leah Jeruto led the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, posting a collegiate personal-best 9:34.71 for the program record and No. 2 time in the NCAA in 2025. She also ranks first in the SEC. Into the night, Thobias Cheruiyot shaved eight seconds off his PR to break his own school record in the 10,000-meter run, registering 28:27.1.

Pippi Lotta Enok claimed another school record Thursday evening when she posted a career-high 6,258 points in the heptathlon for the best finish by a collegian at Mt. SAC Relays. The senior recorded two PRs (shot put, 800m) and tied two PBs (100-meter hurdles, high jump) to secure the 11th-best score in NCAA history and a No. 2-ranking in the NCAA and SEC in 2025.

In other events Wednesday, graduate student Peyton McQuillan grabbed personal record in the women's 10,000-meter run at Azusa Pacific, securing the eighth position on OU's all-time performance list. Sophie Coughlin added another historic performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking 10:29.84 for the No. 3 time on the all-time history list.

Other notable performances from the distance crew came late Thursday night when freshmen Ronald Ngetich and Evans Biwott raced in the men's 5,000-meter run. Ngetich finished third with a career-best 13:38.67, the second-ranked time in Oklahoma outdoor history, while Biwott clocked 13:50.41 for No. 6 in OU history.

The Sooners grabbed additional personal records from Lily Baker in the women's 5,000m (16:38.44) on Thursday and 1,500m (4:13.77) on Friday. Leah Jeruto clocked a PB of 4:13.77 in the 1,500-meter for the second-best time in Oklahoma history and second place in the invite section Friday.

Kennedy Clarke secured the Sooners' first event win of the Michael Johnson Invitational with a 61.41m (201'5.00") toss in the hammer throw. Nailea Fields finished third for another podium placement, registering 56.23m (184'5.00").

Women's long jump duo of Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi and Agur Dwol collected all-conditions personal bests to secure second and third place, respectively. Mbuyi recorded a 6.27m (20'7.00") mark and Dwol 6.20m (20'4.25").

The men's discus group tossed a solid rotation. Ralford Mullings led the field with a massive 66.19m (217'2.00) throw on his fifth attempt for first place and the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium record. Brendon See made his collegiate outdoor debut in the event, registering a 56.76m (186'2.00") mark for the eighth-best toss on Oklahoma's performance list. Teammate Will Dibo followed with a season best of his own, 56.57m (185'7.00"), for the No. 10 spot in OU history.

Jenna James kept the momentum rolling with a career-record 58.05 in the women's 400-meter hurdles for sixth overall and fourth by a collegian. Her time stands No. 5 in OU history and No. 13 in the NCAA West Region.

Graduate student Anthony Riley posted a wind-aided season best of 7.77m (25'6.00") in the men's long jump, finishing fourth overall and third by a collegian. His mark ranks 10th in the NCAA and second in the SEC so far this outdoor season. Freshman and Elgin, Okla., native Niqualas Chew had a breakout performance in the first flight, registering a 7.70m (25'3.25") wind-legal leap for sixth place. His jump ties for 16th in the NCAA and sixth in the SEC.

To close out Friday events in Waco, three Sooners solidified podium finishes in their respective events. Olivia Lueking tied for second place with a 4.47m (14'8.00") clearance in the pole vault and Chesni Scott finished third in the women's discus throw, registering a 55.28m (181'4.00") toss. On the men's side, Gabe Medina clocked 3:52.24 in the 1,500-meter run for second place.
