No. 15 Sooners Take On Georgia, Florida in Pair of Road Duals

NORMAN – The No. 15 Oklahoma men's tennis team is slated to take on Georgia and Florida on the road this weekend to close out March competition.

The Sooners face the Bulldogs in Athens, Ga., on Friday, March 27, at 4:30 p.m. CT before heading to Gainesville, Fla., for a match against the Gators on Sunday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. CT.

The two matches will be Oklahoma's 10th and 11th ranked matchups of the season.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners head into the weekend slate of matches coming off two home wins over Auburn and Alabama. The 5-2 upset victory over Auburn marked OU's fourth win over a ranked team on the season and the 4-0 result against Alabama was the Sooners' fifth sweep of the spring.

IN THE RANKINGS

Oklahoma enters the weekend slate ranked No. 15 in the March 24 ITA rankings. The individual rankings remain the same with senior Luis Alvarez sitting at a career-high rank of 34th in singles and 12th in doubles with teammate Bruno Nhavene

Sophomore Oscar Lacides is No. 58 in singles while sophomore Orel Kimhi is No. 86. Freshman Johan Rodriguez checks in at the No. 108 place. Sooner duo Hank Trondson and Alejandro Melero are No. 37 while Kimhi and Rodriguez round out the ranks at the No. 82 spot.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Rodriguez has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the second straight week after picking up two singles wins and one doubles victory in the two most recent matches. Over the course of the weekend's singles matches, Rodriguez only dropped two games and extended his win streak to six.

Rodriguez has tallied 24 total collegiate wins, three of which have been over ranked opponents.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Georgia is ranked the No. 11 team in the country for the second week in a row and holds 5 individual rankings. Arda Azkara leads the group with a No. 37 nod followed by William Jansen at No. 38. Santiago Giamichelle completes the singles rankings at the No. 103 spot. In doubles, Azkara and Giamichelle are No. 26 while Jansen and Vulpitta are No. 75.

Georgia is 14-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Bulldogs are on a four-match win streak with wins over Arkansas, North Carolina A&T State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Florida holds an 11-9 season record with a 4-5 SEC record. The Gators have won four of their last five matches and have two wins over top-20 teams. Florida got off to a hot start this season, topping then-No. 13 Columbia 4-2 in just their second match.

Four Gators hold ITA singles ranks with Pablo Perez Ramos at No. 45, Henry Jefferson at No, 59, Adhithya Ganesan at No. 72 and Jeremy Jin at No. 91. The lone ranked doubles pair for the Gators is Tanapatt Nirundorn and Jefferson at No. 22.
