No. 11 Sooners Fall 4-3 in Road Test at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 11 Oklahoma women's tennis team dropped a tight, back-and-forth battle, falling 4-3 at No. 46 Florida on Saturday afternoon at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.

After dropping its first doubles point of the year on Thursday, Oklahoma (10-4, 1-2 SEC) responded by claiming wins on the top two courts to secure its 13th doubles point of the season and take early control of the match.

Oklahoma's No. 44 duo of Evialina Laskevich and Edda Mamedova struck first with a 6-4 win over Florida's Brooke Black and Valrery Gynina, improving the freshman tandem's record to 4-1 in dual play.

At the top court, No. 1 Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over No. 23 Xinyi Nong and Niki Daubnerova. The win marked the first ranked victory of the spring for the nation's top-ranked duo, who finished as NCAA doubles semifinalists in the fall.

Notching her second straight-set ranked win of the week at court one, Laskevich extended the Sooner lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 54 Valery Gynina.

Shifting momentum, the Gators rattled off three consecutive singles wins to take the lead. India Houghton knocked off No. 18 Julia Garcia Ruiz, 7-5, 6-2, on court two, Black defeated Chloé Noël, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, at four, and Nahum suffered her first loss of the spring to Florida's No. 97 Nong, 7-6(3), 6-3.

Fellow freshman Mamedova joined Laskevich in the win column, knotting the team score at 3-3 with a marquee upset over No. 23 Gabia Paskauskas, 7-6(6), 7-5.

The match ultimately came down to court five, where Florida's No. 80 Lucie Pawlak outlasted Salakthip Ounmuang to clinch the contest in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

The Sooners continue their road swing next week with a top-15 matchup against No. 14 Tennessee. First serve from the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn., is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
