GAINESVILLE, Fla.Ā āĀ The No. 11 Oklahoma women's tennis team dropped a tight, back-and-forth battle, falling 4-3 at No. 46 Florida on Saturday afternoon at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.Ā
After dropping its first doubles point of the yearĀ on Thursday, Oklahoma (10-4,Ā 1-2Ā SEC) responded by claiming wins on the top two courts to secure its 13th doubles point of the season and take early control of the match.Ā
Oklahoma's No. 44 duo ofĀ Evialina LaskevichĀ and Edda Mamedova struck first with a 6-4 win over Florida's Brooke Black andĀ ValreryĀ Gynina, improving theĀ freshmanĀ tandem's record to 4-1 in dual play.Ā
At the top court, No. 1 Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over No. 23 Xinyi Nong and NikiĀ Daubnerova. The win marked the first ranked victory of the spring for the nation's top-ranked duo, who finished as NCAA doubles semifinalists in the fall.Ā
Notching her second straight-set ranked win of the week at court one,Ā LaskevichĀ extended the SoonerĀ leadĀ to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 54 ValeryĀ Gynina.Ā
Shifting momentum, the Gators rattled off three consecutive singles wins to take the lead.Ā India Houghton knocked off No. 18 Julia Garcia Ruiz, 7-5, 6-2, on court two, Black defeated Chloé Noël, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, at four, and Nahum suffered her first loss of the spring to Florida's No. 97 Nong, 7-6(3), 6-3.Ā
FellowĀ freshmanĀ Mamedova joinedĀ LaskevichĀ in the win column, knotting the team score at 3-3 with a marquee upset over No. 23 GabiaĀ Paskauskas, 7-6(6), 7-5.Ā
The matchĀ ultimately cameĀ down to court five, where Florida's No. 80 Lucie Pawlak outlastedĀ Salakthip OunmuangĀ to clinch the contest in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.Ā
