NORMAN -- The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team will head to No. 9 Michigan for their final meet of the regular season inside Crisler Center on Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. CT. Eastern Michigan was added as a late addition, making Friday's competition a tri-meet.
QUICK FLIPS
- The Sooners are one of just two SEC teams to have multiple athletes earn a perfect 10 this season (Mackenzie Estep [VT] and Addison Fatta [VT]).
- Beam has historically been one of OU's strongest events. That is reflected by the fact the Sooners' season high of 49.700 on Feb. 13 is only the 10th-highest score on the event in program history.
- OU has faced seven teams that were ranked in the top five at the time of competition this season and is 6-0-1 in those meetings.
- Oklahoma is the only team to score a 49.600-plus at least once on all four events this season.
- Senior Faith Torrez has been one of the most consistent beam workers in the country through her career, holding a 98.2% hit rate (57 of 59). Half (29 of 59) of her routines have resulted in a 9.95-plus score.
- Oklahoma closed its home slate with a 5-0 record inside the LNC, marking the 12th straight season OU has gone undefeated at home, posting a 96-0 record across 65 meets.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
No. 9 Michigan: The Wolverines enter their final meet of the regular season coming off a win against No. 14 Clemson at home, where Michigan earned a 197.225. Graduate student Carly Bauman posted two 9.95s to win the bars and floor titles, while sophomore Jahzara Ranger earned her third straight beam title with a 9.95.
Michigan is currently the No. 4 beam team in the nation with a NQS of 49.414, and two athletes ranked in the top 25. The Maize and Blue hold spots in the top-15 on all other events, coming in at No. 11 on floor (49.357), No. 13 on vault (49.161) and No. 15 on bars (49.207).
The Wolverines are led by first-year head coach and former Sooner Maile'ana Kanewa-Hermelyn, and was part of OU's 2014 and 2016 national championship teams. Kanewa-Hermelyn was an assistant coach for Michigan's 2021 national championship.
Eastern Michigan: The Eagles enter the competition as a late addition. In their last meet, Eastern Michigan posted six career-best scores, three of those being on floor. The Eagles are ranked No. 51 in the nation, with their highest score of the season being 195.225.
BACK-TO-BACK
For the second year in a row and the first time outright, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is the SEC regular season champion. The Sooners posted a 197.975-196.150 victory over No. 15 Auburn on Friday night at Lloyd Noble Center to claim the 2026 league crown.
The Sooners went 8-0 in conference play, making them undefeated outright SEC champions for the first time. This is the 22nd conference title in program history and 16th under head coach KJ Kindler.
WEEKEND REWIND
Oklahoma is coming off a double weekend in which it claimed two more wins, besting No. 8 Arkansas 197.925-197.500 in front of an SEC record crowd of 15,512 before heading home to defeat TWU 198.175-195.025 at home on Sunday in its senior day meet.
Seven student-athletes earned a total of 11 event and all-around titles on the weekend. Sophomore Addison Fatta swept the all-around titles last weekend, bringing her total to eight this season. The Sooners earned 28 scores of 9.90-plus over the two meets.
COUNT ON KEIRA
Junior Keira Wells has become a significant contributor to the OU vault and beam lineups this season, along with recently making her career-debut on floor for the Sooners. Wells has competed in nearly every meet this season, contributing 22 routines and earning a 9.90 or above in 14 of those routines. Her consistency on both vault and beam makes her a critical part of the lineups, earning above a 9.800 on every routine and a 9.85-plus on 90 percent (18/20).
STEPPING UP AND SHOWING OUT
With the absence of an incredible senior class, the OU freshmen have stepped up to fill the void. The trio of Mackenzie Estep, Ella Murphy and Kamila Pawlak account for nearly 30 percent of OU's routines this season.
In 37 competition routines, Estep has recorded 21 scores of 9.90 or higher, including a career-high 10.0 on vault. Murphy has tallied 15 marks of 9.9-plus with a career best 9.95 on beam. Pawlak has been in nearly every floor lineup, posting a career-high 9.95 twice this season and four marks over 9.90 in ten routines.
Estep and Murphy have won five of the ten SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season.
YOUNG AND HUNGRY
With 11 underclassmen on this year's roster, the Sooners are younger than they have been in the last few years. However, the freshman and sophomore classes have taken the reigns and have helped lead the team.
The underclassmen have combined for 74% of routines competed in 2026 (195 of 264). The freshmen have contributed 79 routines through 11 meets while the sophomores are responsible for 116. Mackenzie Estep, Addison Fatta, Elle Mueller, Ella Murphy and Lily Pederson have all competed at least three events multiple meets.
CLOUD 9.9
Through nine weeks of competition, 54% of the Sooners' routines have gone 9.90 or higher (143-of-264). With just 19 through the first two meets, OU doubled its output with 18 against Georgia on Jan. 23. The Sooners have notched double-digit scores of 9.90 or better in nine of 11 meets and over 15 such scores in each of three meets (Georgia, Alabama, TWU).
TO 198... AND BEYOND
Oklahoma has totaled 88 scores of 198 or better in program history, including 80 since 2016. Of those 88 scores, only 35 have been earned at home, with 53 coming at road or neutral site competitions. Of the road scores, only 25 have occurred in regional or national competitions, including a 198.3875 at the 2023 NCAA Championship, which tied for the highest NCAA Finals score in history. In 2024, the Sooners earned a program and NCAA best 198.950 at the Big 12 Championships. This season, OU was the first team to break the 198 mark. It holds the most marks of 198 or better (six).
