Sooner Men's Tennis Tops Tennessee Sunday Morning in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Oklahoma men's tennis team (10-3; 2-2) picked up a 4-1 conference win on the road against Tennessee (6-8; 0-4) on Sunday morning. 

The Sooners got off to a dominant start in doubles with sophomore Alejandro Melero and junior Hank Trondson taking a swift 6-1 win at the two line, quickly followed by a 6-3 win by the senior pair of Bruno Nhavene and Luis Alvarez at the primary spot. The senior duo have won three straight matches together and are 5-1 overall on the season since their first time teaming up in early February.

Singles had a similar start with Sooners on the top three courts taking quick first-set wins to maintain the advantage. No. 79 Oscar Lacides claimed his first conference win of the season with a valiant 6-2, 6-2 win at the two line. Lacides' win tallied his tenth singles win of the year.

The Sooners held a 2-0 lead when junior Asahi Harazaki fell 1-6, 1-6 on court five but a 6-1, 6-3 win from No. 49 Luis Alvarez reclaimed the two-point lead for OU. Alvarez's win extends his singles win streak to seven matches. His win over No. 58 Alejandro Moreno improves his ranked win record to 3-0.

The clinching point came from court four where freshman Johan Rodriguez picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory to notch his seventh singles win of the spring.

The Sooners return to the Headington Family Tennis Center to take on Kentucky on Friday, March 6, at 5 p.m. CT.
