Top-10 Men's Tennis Improve to 8-1 After Undefeated Five-Match Slate

NORMAN – The No. 10 Oklahoma men's tennis team finished a five-match slate undefeated after sweeping New Mexico and UT Arlington at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Saturday. The wins improved the Sooners' season record to 8-1.
Head coach Nick Crowell surpassed a milestone 150 wins at Oklahoma following the weekend's competitions.
Oklahoma 4, New Mexico 0
The Sooners claimed the doubles point with wins at the one and three lines. The senior pairing of Bruno Nhavene and Luis Alvarez picked up their second win on the weekend and did so without dropping a game. New Mexico took the match on court two but Asahi Harazaki and Johan Rodriguez sealed the doubles point after winning a crucial deuce point at 5-4.
The front half of the OU singles lineup got off to hot starts, winning break points to pull ahead. No. 107 Rodriguez claimed the first set for the Sooners, then completed his match 6-0, 6-2 to put OU ahead 2-0.
No. 72 Oscar Lacides took his first victory of the weekend in dominant fashion, winning 6-3, 6-1 to inch the Sooners closer to the win.
Alejandro Melero, a sophomore from Spain, clinched OU's win with a win at the five spot. His 7-5, 6-3 result marked his third win of the weekend. His contributions to each of the three matches aided in the Sooners' unbeaten streak at home this season.
Oklahoma 4, UT Arlington 0
Oklahoma ran away with the doubles point, winning courts one and three with only one game dropped between the two courts. Alvarez and Nhavene finished their weekend doubles streak undefeated while Harazaki and Lacides teamed up for their first win as a duo.
Trondson and Melero's match on court two went unfinished.
The first point in singles play came from a retirement due to injury on court three. Melero extended his singles win streak with a strong 6-1, 6-1 showing on court five.
Oklahoma's fourth and final point came from No. 76 Alvarez's 6-0, 6-4 victory at the two line.
On the remaining courts, Lacides was ahead 6-2, 4-3, Trondson trailed 6-1, 3-4 in the second set and freshman Luka Talan Lopatic had a 6-2, 4-3 edge over his opponent.
