Sooners Welcome No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 9 Texas to Norman

NORMAN - Oklahoma volleyball returns to McCasland Field House for a pair of ranked SEC matchups this week, hosting No. 12 Texas A&M Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT before welcoming No. 9 Texas Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.

The two matches open a four-match homestand against AVCA Top 25 opponents for the Sooners, who enter the week at 8-4 overall and 1-2 in SEC play. Wednesday's matchup with the reigning national champion Aggies will air nationally on SEC Network, while Sunday's contest against the Longhorns will stream on SEC Network+.

RANKED RUN
Oklahoma begins a stretch of four consecutive matches against ranked opponents Wednesday against No. 12 Texas A&M. The Sooners will host No. 9 Texas on Sunday before welcoming No. 4 Kentucky and No. 10 Tennessee to Norman next weekend. The four opponents also rank among the top 25 of the first NCAA RPI rankings of the season, with Kentucky at No. 2, Texas at No. 9, Tennessee at No. 19 and Texas A&M at No. 24. Oklahoma debuted at No. 34 in the RPI.

FIRST ONE DOWN
Oklahoma picked up its first SEC victory of the season with a 3-1 win at South Carolina on Friday. The Sooners hit .333 and totaled 65 kills in the victory, with Alaleh Tolliver leading the way with 20 kills and Tekoa Barnes adding 18. OU closed the weekend with a four-set loss at Georgia and enters the week at 8-4 overall and 1-2 in SEC play.

ATTACKING FROM ALL ANGLES
Oklahoma is one of just two SEC teams with four players averaging at least 2.5 kills per set this season. Tekoa Barnes leads the group at 3.82 kills per set, followed by Alaleh Tolliver at 3.38, Mikala Young at 2.75 and Alyssa Flack at 2.60. Tolliver leads the Sooners with 152 total kills, while Barnes has totaled 126 kills in nine appearances.

TEKOA TAKES OFF
Sophomore Tekoa Barnes turned in back-to-back 18-kill performances during Oklahoma's first SEC road weekend. The sophomore put down 18 kills on 32 swings while hitting .500 in OU's win at South Carolina before adding another 18 kills and three aces at Georgia. Barnes has now reached double-digit kills in seven of her nine appearances and leads the Sooners with 3.82 kills and 4.45 points per set. Her 4.45 points per set rank 10th in the SEC.

DISHING IT OUT
Sophomore setter Avaya Maga enters the week ranked third nationally and third in the SEC with 11.59 assists per set. Maga has totaled 533 assists through 12 matches and ranks second in the conference in total assists. She recorded 97 assists during Oklahoma's first SEC road weekend, including 55 in the Sooners' 3-1 victory at South Carolina. Maga directs an OU offense that ranks 11th nationally in assists per set, 14th in kills per set and 25th in hitting percentage.

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
Oklahoma continues to rank among the SEC's top offensive teams through 12 matches. The Sooners rank fourth in the conference with a .270 hitting percentage while averaging 14.13 kills and 13.17 assists per set. OU has hit .300 or better in five matches this season, including a .333 performance in Friday's four-set victory at South Carolina.

EFFICIENT IN THE MIDDLE
Junior Carley Butler and senior Elise Hani both rank among the SEC's top 10 in hitting percentage. Butler is seventh in the conference with a .354 clip, while Hani ranks 10th at .344. Butler has recorded 81 kills against just 18 errors on 178 attacks this season, while Hani has totaled 79 kills and leads the Sooners with 32 blocks.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Reigning national champion Texas A&M enters Wednesday's match at 10-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in SEC play. The Aggies faced seven ranked opponents during nonconference play, including five top-15 matchups, and earned victories over then-No. 4 Stanford and No. 20 Creighton. A&M has opened SEC play with three consecutive sweeps, defeating South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi State.

DEFENSE SETS THE TONE
Texas A&M has been particularly effective defensively through its first three SEC matches. The Aggies lead the conference by holding league opponents to a .087 hitting percentage and just 8.56 kills per set, surrendering just 77 kills across nine sets of SEC action.

ONE TO WATCH
Kyndal Stowers leads the Texas A&M attack with 151 kills and 4.31 kills per set, the fifth-best average in the SEC. The senior has been even more productive in conference play, averaging 4.22 kills and 5.33 points per set through the Aggies' first three league matches. Stowers also leads the SEC during conference play with 0.89 service aces per set.

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE AGGIES
Texas A&M leads the all-time series with Oklahoma, 40-8. The Sooners have won nine of the last 15 meetings dating back to 2006, but the Aggies have claimed each of the last three, including 3-0 victories in each of the last two seasons. OU's last win in the series came in 2018, when the Sooners swept a two-match set against Texas A&M in Norman with five- and four-set victories.

SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS
Texas enters the week at 7-5 overall and 3-1 in SEC play after navigating a schedule that featured nine ranked opponents in its first 10 matches. The Longhorns went 4-5 in those contests, earning ranked wins over then-No. 18 TCU, No. 15 USC, No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 13 Tennessee. Texas has won three of its first four SEC matches, with its lone conference loss coming at then-No. 3 Kentucky, and enters the week on a two-match winning streak after home victories over Mississippi State and Alabama.

STAFFORD STEPS UP
Torrey Stafford has paced the Texas offense with 188 kills and 4.18 kills per set this season. The outside hitter has elevated her production in conference play, leading the SEC with 5.20 kills and 5.70 points per set through four league matches. Stafford has totaled 78 kills across 15 SEC sets, including 28 in Texas' five-set victory at Tennessee.

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE LONGHORNS
Texas leads the all-time series with Oklahoma, 65-5. The Sooners earned their most recent victory in the series with a five-set win in Austin on Nov. 3, 2024, their first win over the Longhorns since 2014. Texas responded with wins in the next two meetings, including a four-set victory in Austin last season. OU's five all-time wins in the series came in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2024.
