Sooners Set for First SEC Road Swing

NORMAN - Oklahoma volleyball hits the road for the first time in SEC play this weekend, traveling to South Carolina Friday before continuing on to Athens for a Sunday matchup with Georgia. The Sooners enter the weekend at 7-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Friday's match against the Gamecocks is set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network, while Sunday's contest against the Bulldogs is slated for 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+. Oklahoma will look to bounce back from a straight-set loss to No. 8 Florida in its SEC opener Sunday and enters the road swing with a 2-1 record in true road matches this season.

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
Oklahoma enters the weekend ranked among the nation's top 25 in three offensive categories. The Sooners rank 15th nationally with 14.13 kills per set, 17th with 13.13 assists per set and 25th with a .275 hitting percentage. Within the SEC, OU ranks fourth in both kills and assists per set and sixth in hitting percentage. OU has produced the SEC's two highest single-match kill totals this season with 79 against East Tennessee State and 75 against Ohio State. Those same matches account for the league's top two assist totals, with the Sooners recording 76 against ETSU and 71 against Ohio State.

RUNNING THE SHOW
Sophomore setter Avaya Maga enters the weekend ranked third nationally and third in the SEC with 11.47 assists per set. Maga has totaled 436 assists while directing an Oklahoma offense that ranks 15th nationally in kills per set and 25th in hitting percentage. She recorded three double-doubles during non-conference play and set a career high with 68 assists against East Tennessee State, helping the Sooners produce an SEC season-high 79 kills.

RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE
Junior middle blocker Carley Butler enters the weekend ranked 10th in the SEC with a .382 hitting percentage. Butler has recorded 66 kills against just 11 errors on 144 attacks through eight appearances, averaging 2.28 kills per set. After entering the season with a career high of three kills, Butler has recorded at least five kills in each of her last six matches, highlighted by consecutive career-high performances of 14 kills at Western Kentucky and 15 against ETSU. Butler ranks 57th nationally in hitting percentage.

MULTIPLE OPTIONS
Oklahoma has four players averaging at least 2.6 kills per set through its first 10 matches. Tekoa Barnes leads the group at 3.60 kills per set, followed by Alaleh Tolliver at 3.30, Mikala Young at 3.22 and Alyssa Flack at 2.69. Tolliver leads the Sooners with 122 total kills and has reached double figures six times, highlighted by a career-high 26 kills against ETSU. Barnes has 90 kills in seven appearances, while Young recorded three consecutive double-digit kill performances to close non-conference play.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA
South Carolina enters Friday at 7-5 overall and 0-2 in SEC play. The Gamecocks opened conference action with a five-set loss at Georgia before falling in straight sets at Texas A&M. South Carolina went 7-3 during non-conference play, including a five-set road victory at Michigan, and owns a 4-1 record at home this season. The Gamecocks rank 12th in the SEC with a .235 hitting percentage but have leaned on their defense, ranking third in blocks and fifth in digs per set.

AT THE NET
Oklahoma will face one of the SEC's top blocking teams Friday in South Carolina. The Gamecocks rank third in the conference with 2.61 blocks per set and also rank fifth with 13.41 digs per set. Sydney Davis ranks second individually in the SEC at 1.45 blocks per set, while Elise Marchal ranks 10th at 1.17. South Carolina has recorded three of the SEC's highest single-match block totals this season, including a league-best 18.0 blocks at Michigan.

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE GAMECOCKS
South Carolina holds a narrow 4-3 advantage in the all-time series with Oklahoma. The Sooners snapped a four-match skid in the series with a 3-1 victory in Norman last season, their first win over the Gamecocks since 1996. Friday marks OU's first trip to Columbia since 2024, when South Carolina earned a 3-1 victory. Oklahoma is 1-2 all-time against the Gamecocks in Columbia.

A TRIP TO ATHENS
Georgia enters the week at 9-2 overall and 1-0 in SEC play after opening conference action with a five-set victory over South Carolina. The Bulldogs have won six consecutive matches since losses to Indiana and Purdue and are 6-0 at home this season. Georgia ranks third in the SEC with 1.86 aces per set and eighth with a .268 hitting percentage.

BULLDOG BITES
Georgia's Bianna Muoneke enters the week as one of the SEC's top offensive threats, ranking second in the conference with 4.63 kills and 5.24 points per set. Muoneke recorded 27 kills in Georgia's five-set SEC-opening victory over South Carolina, one of the highest single-match totals by an SEC player this season. Freshman Gigi Artiles is coming off SEC Freshman of the Week honors after recording 26 kills and 17 digs in Georgia's five-set win over Georgia Tech, while Kendal Kemp ranks among the conference's top 10 blockers at 1.23 blocks per set.Ā 

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE BULLDOGS
Georgia leads the all-time series with Oklahoma, 6-2. The Sooners earned their first victory in the series with a five-set win at a neutral site in 2018 before defeating the Bulldogs, 3-2, in Athens in 2024 for their first SEC victory over Georgia. The Bulldogs responded with a 3-1 win in Norman last season. Oklahoma is 1-2 all-time against Georgia in Athens.

RANKED ROAD AHEAD
The SEC placed five teams in the latest AVCA Top 25 poll, including four inside the top 15. Kentucky leads the conference at No. 3, followed by No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Texas, No. 11 Tennessee and No. 14 Texas A&M, while Georgia is receiving votes. Following this weekend's road swing, Oklahoma will face four consecutive ranked opponents in Texas A&M, Texas, Kentucky and Tennessee.
