WILMINGTON, N.C. ā Oklahoma men's golf finished tied for eighth at the Williams Cup on Tuesday, closing the 54-hole event at 16-over par at Eagle Point Golf Club.
The Sooners (T8, +16) were led by the nation's top-ranked player, Ryder Cowan, for the fourth time this season as the senior finished tied for 22nd. No. 10 Florida ran away with the team title at 19-under par, finishing 17 shots clear of runner-up No. 2 Auburn.
Cowan (T22, +3) carded rounds of 74-74-71 to finish at 3-over par and share 22nd. His final-round 71 marked the 84th par-or-better round of his career, a total that ranks inside Oklahoma's all-time top 10.
Competing unattached from the OU lineup, Clark Van Gaalen (T22, +3) matched Cowan at 3-over par with rounds of 71-75-73.
Senior PJ Maybank III (T34, +5) used a 3-under 69 in the second round, sandwiched between a pair of 76s, to finish tied for 34th at 5-over par. Cayse Morgan (T41, +6), Bradley Sawka (T49, +7) and Lucas Gimenez (T55, +8) rounded out the Oklahoma lineup.
Auburn's Josiah Gilbert claimed medalist honors at 8-under par. In the team race, Auburn (-2) finished second behind Florida, followed by UNLV (+2) in third, No. 23 Arizona State (+8) in fourth and No. 13 Vanderbilt (+12) in fifth.
The Sooners return to action Oct. 26-28 at the Ka'anapali Classic. Oklahoma has won the event in four consecutive seasons and set the program's 54-hole scoring record last year with a 63-under-par performance.
