Cowan Sets Tournament Record, Wins Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Ryder Cowan moved into Oklahoma's all-time top five in career victories Monday, claiming the individual title at the Gopher Invitational for his third career win.
The Sooner won the tournament by six strokes, leading Oklahoma to a runner-up finish at Windsong Farm Golf Club. Cowan's 13-under 200 set the tournament's 54-hole scoring record by two shots, making him the third Sooner to win the event, joining Grant Hirschman (2016) and Max McGreevy (2015).
Led by first-year head coach Jonathan Moore, the Sooners (2nd, -3) opened with a 10-over 294 on Sunday before responding with a 10-under 274 in the second round to take a one-shot lead into the Monday. Oklahoma carded a 3-under 281 in the final round, while Georgia fired a 11-under 273 to storm back and claim the team title at 9-under.
Cowan, a senior from Edmond, Okla., opened the tournament with a 1-over 72 at the par-71 track Sunday morning before bouncing back with a tournament-record 63 (-8) in the second round. The 63 moved Cowan into first place and marked the second-lowest round of his career. He closed out the victory with a bogey-free 65 (-6) Monday afternoon to finish at 13-under and secure his third career title.
A preseason All-American, Cowan has now competed in 41 events for the Sooners, recording 26 top-20 finishes, 17 top-10 finishes and 11 top-five finishes. Monday's victory joins his wins at the 2025 Ka'anapali Classic and 2026 Valspar Collegiate Invitational and moves him into fourth place on Oklahoma's all-time wins list.
True freshman Lucas Gimenez (T6, -2) posted a top-10 finish in just his second collegiate event, signing for rounds of 71-67-73. Gimenez was in contention for runner-up honors midway through the final round.
PJ Maybank III (T13, +2), who competed unattached from the lineup, shared 13th place after rounds of 71-70-74.
Bradley Sawka (T25, +5), Cayse Morgan (T30, +7) and Clark Van Gaalen (T62, +13) rounded out the OU contingent.
Georgia's 9-under 843 edged the Sooners by six strokes, while Oklahoma finished 11 shots ahead of third-place Rutgers at 8-over. Cincinnati (+10) and Little Rock (+13) rounded out the top five.
Elsewhere in the area, three Sooners competed as individuals at the Minnesota Golf Classic at Pioneer Creek Golf Club. Matthew Troutman finished third at 9-under, one stroke behind the co-champions, while Preston Albee (T6, -8) and Cameron Cheek (14, -3) each posted top-15 finishes.
Moore and the Sooners return to action next week, Sept. 28-29, at the Ben Hogan Collegiate at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
