Cowan Leads Men's Golf at Inverness in Moore's Coaching Debut

TOLEDO, OHIO āĀ In its first event under head coach Jonathan Moore, Oklahoma men's golf finished tied for 10th at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Inverness Club.
The Sooners finished at 24-over par in a field that featured seven ranked teams. Oklahoma posted the second-lowest round of the tournament in Monday's second round, carding a 5-under-par 279, but opening and closing rounds of 300 (+16) and 297 (+13), respectively, kept the Sooners from challenging for the top five in their season opener.Ā
Preseason All-American Ryder Cowan paced the Sooners, finishing fourth at even par. Cowan carded rounds of 73-67-73 to earn the 10th top-five finish of his career. The low amateur at the 2026 U.S. Open, Cowan's second-round 67 marked the 37th round in the 60s of his career, moving him into the top 10 in program history.Ā
Connecticut transfer Bradley Sawka finished tied for 26th at 7-over par after posting rounds of 76-70-74.
True freshman Lucas Gimenez made his collegiate debut, finishing tied for 36th at 8-over par with rounds of 75-71-75.
PJ Maybank III (T52) and Cayse Morgan (T59) rounded out the Sooner lineup with finishes outside of the top 50.Ā
Auburn claimed the team title at 11-over par, bestingĀ Toledo and East Tennessee State by one stroke. Texas Tech and Ohio State rounded out the top five. Toledo's Bence Bertenyi captured the individual title at 3-under par.
Oklahoma returns to action Sept. 20-21 at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.
