NORMAN - Sophomore pin hitter
Alyssa Flack has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I National Player of the Week after leading Oklahoma's offense in a pair of top-15 victories.
Flack becomes the fourth Sooner to earn AVCA National Player of the Week honors and the first since Kylee McLaughlin on Nov. 13, 2018. She joins Caitlin Higgins (2008), Sallie McLaurin (2013) and McLaughlin (2018) as Oklahoma recipients of the national award.
The national recognition comes one day after Flack was named both the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week. Her performances helped OU defeat No. 12 Texas A&M in five sets Wednesday before sweeping No. 9 Texas Sunday, securing consecutive top-15 victories for the first time in team history.
Flack led the Sooners with 34 kills across eight sets, averaging 4.25 kills and 4.69 points per set while posting a .346 hitting percentage. The Streetsville, Ontario, native also contributed six blocks, including one solo block, during the two-match stretch.
In Wednesday's five-set victory over Texas A&M, Flack tallied 15 kills on a .286 hitting percentage and added a season-high four blocks. She followed with a career-high 19 kills in Sunday's sweep of Texas, hitting .395 with just two errors on 43 attempts. Her 19 kills led all players in the match as Oklahoma hit .318 against the Longhorns, the second-highest hitting percentage Texas has allowed this season.
The Sooners return to McCasland Field House this weekend to host No. 4 Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 9 Tennessee on Sunday at 2 p.m.
