NORMAN — The Oklahoma rowing team closed out its weekend at the Big Ten Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., with seven top-three finishes, including a pair of first-place performances.
"We really appreciate being included in this premier invite," said head coach
Sarah Trowbridge. "The Oklahoma that showed up this weekend is a new level for our program. We had some killer wins across the weekend and some good steps made by all boats. Not every race went the way we wanted but every race will contribute to our learning and our climb."
Oklahoma's 2V8+ crew saw the most success this weekend, securing a pair of first-place finishes and a bronze. The boat clinched first in the second race on Friday, besting five other boats including fellow SEC member Alabama. The Sooners claimed first again on Saturday morning over SMU, Michigan State, Clemson and Iowa.
OU's 2V4+ and 3V4+ boats each secured third-place finishes Friday afternoon. The 2V4+ tallied another first-place victory Saturday morning, finishing ahead of Michigan State, Clemson, Iowa and SMU. The 1V4+ edged out Clemson on Saturday for a second-place finish.
OU heads south to Austin, Texas, for their last regatta of the regular season next weekend, April 18-19, at the Longhorn Invite. The Sooners will meet Texas, SMU, Stanford, UCF and Team Canada on Lake Walter E. Long.
