NORMAN — The draws for the 2024-25 NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships were released Saturday by the NCAA, including opponents and times for two Oklahoma women's tennis players in a field of 64.
Oklahoma is represented in the singles draw by senior
Alina Shcherbinina and junior
Julia Garcia Ruiz, who both earned All-American status at last season's tournament.
Shcherbinina kicks off the championships on Tuesday with a match against No. 41 Emma Jackson of Duke, while No. 9-16 Garcia Ruiz faces Duke's Irina Balus. Both matches are set for the Hurd Center in Waco, Texas, with Cracked Racquets providing whip-around coverage of the entire event. Individual courts will be streamed on Playsight.
All matches are best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches.
Shcherbinina owns a 10-5 overall record this fall with a 4-4 mark against ranked opponents. The two-time All-Big 12 honoree punched her ticket with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Houston's No. 109 Santa Strombacha in a playoff quarterfinal match at the ITA Sectional Championships on Nov. 10 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Moscow, Russia, native is currently listed at No. 56 heading into the NCAA individual tournament.
Garcia Ruiz, who is a two-time All-Big 12 selection, heads into the NCAA individual tournament ranked as the No. 16 singles player. She earned her spot in the singles draw after defeating Texas A&M's Daria Smetannikov, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the ITA Central Sectional Championships on Nov. 9. The Morelia, Mexico, native holds an 11-3 record (3-2 against ranked opponents) this year and has a current singles win streak of nine matches.
