OU Goes Unbeaten in Non-Conference Play

PROVO, UtahĀ  — Oklahoma Soccer (6-0-2) held a 1-0 lead for 41 minutes thanks to a Fernanda Dantas goal until No. 14/23 BYU (4-1-1) tied it with just over six minutes remaining as the Sooners and Cougars played to a 1-1 draw in front of 2,854 fans at South Field Saturday, Sept. 5.

OU finishes non-conference play 6-0-2, going unbeaten for the first eight games for the first time in program history.Ā

BYU kept the majority of the possession early on, but OU had the most dangerous threats in the first half. Those pushes started with a shot by Kayla Keefer that was saved by BYU goalkeeper Chelsea Peterson. Peterson parried the shot off the crossbar before being tapped in by Narissa Fults, but the goal was called off for offsides. Kate McCallister ripped a shot on target in the 24th minute that was also saved.Ā

OU got on the board from a first-time goal scorer and two players who notched their first assists. Ariana Ellison played a ball to Emily Davey on the left wing before she hooked a perfect ball into the box that Dantas headed in.Ā

OU held the line for the next 38 minutes until BYU's Sophie Sivulich found the back of the net after being denied on an initial attempt.

Sullivan made three big saves and the OU backline weathered 16 corner kicks. The Sooners took 10 shots, six on goal, while BYU tallied 15 shots and four shots on target.Ā
