Underclassmen Shine as Sooners Grab Second at Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's golf finished as the runner-up at the 14th annual Schooner Fall Classic on Monday, posting its second consecutive under-par team score to open the 2026-27 campaign and placing four golfers in the top 20.
Competing as unattached individuals, Satonkan (Earn) Thiengsri and true freshman Ryan Donaldson led the way for the Sooners at par-70 Belmar Golf Club. Thiengsri finished as the co-runner-up at 9-under, matching the best finish of her career, while Donaldson tied for sixth at 6-under in her collegiate debut.
Oklahoma entered Monday's final round in contention for the team title after rounds of 272 (-8) and 275 (-5) on Saturday and Sunday. The Sooners were unable to make enough putts over the final 18 holes, however, as Iowa State carded a tournament-record 810 (-30) to win by 17 shots.
Despite Monday's result, Oklahoma is off to one of the best starts in program history. The Sooners opened the season by winning The Bruzzy by 10 strokes and followed with the program's best finish at the Schooner.
"Overall, I'm disappointed in our finish and know that we need to play better, especially here at a course that we're familiar with," 18th-year head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "Even with that, it's so exciting to see our younger players shine and play well. Our three top finishers were two sophomores and a freshman, and that makes me really excited for what we can do moving forward."
Thiengsri, a sophomore from Thailand, finished tied for 17th at last year's Schooner Fall Classic but surged up the leaderboard this week with rounds of 66-67-68. Her bogey-free 66 in the opening round marked a career low and helped her secure the third top-10 finish of her career.
"Earn was so good this week," Drouin-Luttrell added. "She has every capability of being one of the elite players in golf and showed why this week. She worked so hard on her game this summer back home in Thailand and added some club speed, and it's really paid off for her."
Donaldson led the Sooners with 14 birdies, carding rounds of 67-72-65 to finish tied for sixth at 6-under in her collegiate debut. The McAlpin, Fla., product vaulted 16 spots up the leaderboard Monday with a 5-under 65.
OU's top finisher from its starting lineup was sophomore Meg Tilma (T10, -5), who posted her second consecutive top-10 finish to open the season. The Wichita, Kan., product won the season-opening Bruzzy and closed the Schooner with a 5-under 65 to climb into a tie for 10th.
Audrey Rischer (T18, -3) also turned in a strong performance, carding rounds of 66-68-73 to earn her team-high 11th career top-20 finish.
Nancy Cox and Anna Kate Nichols both finished tied for 24th at 1-under and contributed counting scores in all three rounds, while MaKayla Troutman tied for 46th at 5-over.
Competing unattached, true freshman Valentina Guertin also tied for 46th, while Ellison Lundquist finished 80th.
Iowa State's Alexandra Vidal Rivera sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole to claim the individual title at 10-under and propel the Cyclones to a Schooner Fall Classic-record 30-under team score. Oklahoma finished ahead of Florida State (+11), Virginia Tech (+10) and TCU (+8) to round out the top five.
The Sooners return to action Sept. 29-30 at the NB3 Match Play Championship at Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M. The nationally televised match-play event will air on Golf Channel, with Oklahoma set to face either NC State, New Mexico or New Mexico State.
