NORMAN – Oklahoma women's golf closed the most successful fall season in program history on Wednesday, finishing seventh at The Fin at Freestone Lake and Golf Club in Fairfield, Texas.
The Sooners (7, +31) posted the third-lowest combined score over the final two rounds, but an opening-round 18-over performance proved too much to overcome as Oklahoma's two-tournament winning streak came to an end. Texas A&M claimed the team title at 5-over par as none of the nine teams in the field finished at even par or better.
Sophomore Meg Tilma led the OU lineup, tying for 16th at 7-over par to secure her third top-20 finish of the season. Tilma (T16, +7) carded rounds of 75-74-74 at the par-72 course to pace the Sooners.
Anna Kate Nichols (T24, +10) narrowly missed a top-20 finish, posting rounds of 80-74-72 to share 24th at 10-over par. Her final-round 72 (E) marked her eighth par-or-better round of the season, the second most on the team.
Nancy Cox (T28, +12) signed for rounds of 76-71-81 to finish tied for 28th, while Audrey Rischer (T30, +13) and Satonkan (Earn) Thiengsri (T46, +18) rounded out the OU lineup. Valentina Marie Guertin (53, +25) competed unattached.
Texas A&M finished 11 shots clear of runner-up Oklahoma State (+16), followed by Mississippi State (+22), LSU (+24) and Arkansas (+25) to round out the top five. Vanderbilt's Ava Merrill and Mississippi State's Alicia Bellendir shared medalist honors at 5-under par, finishing as two of just five players under par for the tournament.
Despite the seventh-place finish, Oklahoma closed the fall with its most successful campaign in program history, winning three of five tournaments and posting a top-15 national scoring average. The Sooners will look to carry that momentum into the spring when they return to action Feb. 1 at the Paradise Invitational.
