Cowan, Summy Named Consensus All-Americans

NORMAN – Two Oklahoma men's golfers earned All-America honors from both the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and Golfweek on Wednesday.

Ryder Cowan was named a second-team selection by both organizations, while Jase Summy earned third-team honors on each list. It marks the second consecutive season, and the fifth time in the last seven years, that Oklahoma has placed multiple golfers on the first, second or third All-America teams.

The duo also earned All-America recognition last season and helped raise Oklahoma's all-time total to 85 All-America honorees.

Cowan earned his second career All-America honor after being named an honorable mention selection a year ago. The junior was a second-team choice by both the GCAA and Golfweek following a standout season that also earned him All-SEC First Team recognition.

The Edmond, Okla., native finished the year ranked No. 14 nationally after collecting two victories and six top-10 finishes in 14 events. His 70.12 scoring average (-1.26) ranks among the five best single-season marks in program history, while his 172 birdies were the second most ever recorded by a Sooner in a season. Cowan posted 27 par-or-better rounds and was Oklahoma's top finisher at the NCAA Championships. Earlier this week, he announced his return to Norman for a fourth season and will represent the United States this summer at the Palmer Cup.

Summy earned his second career All-America honor and closed one of the most accomplished careers in program history with third-team recognition from both organizations. The Keller, Texas, product finished the season ranked No. 25 nationally and joined Cowan on the All-SEC First Team.

Summy recorded seven top-10 finishes in 13 events and captured the season-opening Carmel Cup title. He posted 27 par-or-better rounds and 18 rounds in the 60s, both among the top five single-season totals in Oklahoma history. He leaves Norman as the program's career leader in scoring average (70.76, -0.53), birdies (613), rounds in the 60s (57) and par-or-better rounds (98).

Summy finished third in the final PGA Tour University rankings, earning immediate Korn Ferry Tour status. He begins his professional career this week at the OccuNet Classic in Amarillo, Texas.

The pair helped lead Oklahoma to its 15th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, where the Sooners finished 14th nationally.
