Cowan, Summy Earn All-SEC First Team Honors

May 07, 2026 | Men's Golf

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's golfers Ryder Cowan and Jase Summy were named to the All-SEC First Team on Thursday, as voted on by the league's coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

The two first-team selections mark the first time since 2023 that Oklahoma has produced multiple first-team all-conference honorees in the same season. The honors bring head coach Ryan Hybl's total to 24 all-conference selections at Oklahoma, including 15 since 2021.

Oklahoma was one of two programs (Auburn) to place multiple golfers on the All-SEC First Team.

For Summy, the honor marks his second consecutive first-team selection and the third all-conference nod of his career. Cowan collects the first all-conference honor of his career despite earning All-America honors in each of his first two seasons.

Ranked No. 14 nationally, Cowan has posted nine top-20 finishes, five top-10s and two wins in 12 events this season. His scoring average vs. par of -1.25 stands as the fifth-lowest single-season mark in program history, while 15 of his 36 rounds have been in the 60s. He owns 23 rounds of par-or-better this season after setting the Oklahoma single-season record with 30 last year. The junior was named to Team USA for the 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup and to the final watch list for the Haskins Award earlier this week.

Summy, ranked No. 16 nationally and third in the PGA TOUR University ranking (top college seniors), has delivered one of the best seasons of his decorated career. The senior owns six top-10 finishes in 11 events, including five top-five placements and one win. His 15 rounds in the 60s match Cowan for the team lead, while his 70.24 scoring average would rank seventh in Oklahoma single-season history.

The SEC men's golf awards include 10 first-team and eight second-team honorees. Top-ranked Auburn earned two of the league's major awards, as Jackson Koivun was named SEC Player of the Year and Jake Albert earned the league's Freshman of the Year honor. Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy was voted SEC Coach of the Year, while Texas' Matt Comegys earned SEC Newcomer of the Year and Vanderbilt's Wells Williams was the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Twenty of the nation's top-50 players compete in the Southeastern Conference, including nine of the top 20.

Cowan and Summy will lead No. 17 Oklahoma into its 15th consecutive NCAA postseason later this month, as the Sooners were selected as the No. 3 seed at the NCAA Corvallis Regional. The regional is set for May 18-20 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Oregon. It marks a program-record eighth consecutive season that Oklahoma has earned a top-three regional seed.
