Doubleheader Sweep Seals Softball’s SEC Regular Season Title

May 02, 2026 | Softball

No. 1/1 OU Defeats No. 12/14 Texas A&M, 4-3 and 6-4

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 1/1 Oklahoma Softball (48-7, 20-4 SEC) needed two wins on the final day of the regular season in order to secure the 2026 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Regular Season Championship outright. After Saturday's doubleheader they did just that, defeating No. 12/14 Texas A&M (36-16, 16-8 SEC), 4-3 and 6-4, securing OU's second-straight SEC Regular Season crown.

Miali Guachino fanned a pair and Abby Dayton made a diving catch to steal extra bases to leadoff the bottom of the second as the Sooners stranded four Texas A&M runners early, keeping things at 0-0 through three.

OU broke the stalemate with a three-run fourth inning. Ella Parker reached on a walk and Gabbie Garcia took her place after a fielder's choice. After Kendall Wells was intentionally walked, Kasidi Pickering hooked an 0-2 pitch into right for a single and 1-0 Sooners lead, scoring pinch runner Chaney Helton

Dayton put down a squeeze bunt that plated Wells, who slid just underneath the tag. The Sooners added one more when Lexi McDaniel smoked a pinch-hit RBI single up the middle, chasing Texas A&M starter Sidne Peters.

Texas A&M got in the scoring column in the fifth, scoring a three. Frankie Vrazel slapped a single to left and Kennedy Powell hit a home run to right center. It was just Powell's second home run of the season. Tallen Edwards made it a three-hit day with a solo shot to right one batter later.

Sydney Barker reached on a single to right with one out in the sixth and Ailana Agbayani took her spot after legging out a fielder's choice groundout. With two away, Minor wrapped a go-ahead RBI triple just inside the right field line for the lead.

A&M threatened in the bottom of the sixth, putting runners at second and third after an infield single and error on an attempt to get lead runner Kelsey Mathis at second on a grounder. Audrey Lowry, who entered in the fifth, fanned Kennedy Powell to end the inning.

Edwards started the frame with an infield single before Mya Perez grounded into a fielder's choice and Micaela Wark lined out to Barker. Barker threw to first base for the double play, but after an umpire-initiated review, Perez was ruled safe. KK Dement reached on a fielding error before Barker finally ended the game by going to third base unassisted on a cued grounder from Ariel Kowalewski. That play was also reviewed to determine if it was grabbed by Barker in fair territory.

Minor picked up right where she left off, homering to center to leadoff the game. Garcia started a two-out rally with a single to right before McDaniel singled through the left side. Pickering cleared the bases with a three-run home run just over the wall in right, giving OU a 4-0 lead.

Sydney Berzon was dominant, allowing only three baserunners through five innings to keep Texas A&M at bay. Minor added OU's fifth run in the top of the fifth with a sharply hit grounder through the right side and Parker capped the scoring with a solo shot to center.

The Aggies used every out to their name, clawing back into the game with four runs in the seventh. Paisle Allen hit a three-run home run during the rally, but Lowry entered and induced a groundout and fly out to earn the save.
