First Sooner Freshman on the List Since 2022

NORMAN — Oklahoma Softball freshman Kendall Wells was named a top 10 finalist for the 2026 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award as announced Wednesday, May 13.

Wells is the lone freshman and underclassman on the prestigious list that includes teams from all four Power Four conferences and one mid-major league. She is also the first Oklahoma freshman to be a top 10 finalist since Jordy Bahl Frahm in 2022. Wells is the first Oklahoma freshman position player to earn the distinction since Tiare Jennings was tabbed to the list in 2021.

OU paced the nation with four names on the top 25 list. This top 10 list will be narrowed down to three names on May 18, with the player of the year being revealed ahead of the 2026 Women's College World Series.

Wells was recently named 2026 SEC Freshman of the Year and is a member of the 2026 All-SEC First Team after hitting 36 home runs with 79 RBIs. She is joined by classmate Kai Minor on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Freshman of the Year Top 10 list.

Oklahoma Softball gears up for the Norman Regional, set to begin Friday, May 15 at 2:30 p.m. when the Sooners take on Binghamton at Love's Field. That game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
