NORMAN — Similar to Thursday night's win, No. 3 Oklahoma (37-3, 10-1 SEC) combined timely hitting with a pair of home runs and a quality start as the Sooners defeated Kentucky (22-18, 1-13 SEC), 9-1, in five innings Friday, April 3.
OU scored nine unanswered runs, six of which came with two outs, and
Miali Guachino improved to 11-0 with four innings of one-run ball. Freshman
Lexi McDaniel drove in a game-high five runs while classmate
Kendall Wells homered for the 29th time.
OU 9, Kentucky 1
Kentucky's Carly Sleeman homered to right field to leadoff the game and give Kentucky a 1-0 lead.
OU only needed one hit to score twice in the first as the Sooner bats drew four walks to plate a pair.
Gabbie Garcia notched OU's only hit in the frame, while McDaniel and
Ailana Agbayani coaxed RBI free passes.
The two-out production rolled on in the second inning, with OU scoring four runs, all of which were unearned after Kentucky left fielder Alexa Riddel dropped a fly ball to open the inning. UK's Emory Donaldson made a stellar running catch on a
Kai Minor liner and Kentucky got the next batter, but five consecutive OU batters reached to extend the lead to 6-1.
Kasidi Pickering and
Ella Parker plated one apiece and McDaniel flared a two-RBI single to left center.
Guachino settled in after the leadoff homer, retiring nine straight batters between the first and third inning.
Wells homered for the second time on the weekend, launching a solo bomb to right to bring OU's lead to 7-1 in the third. McDaniel completed the scoring with a two-run homer to right in the fourth.
Allyssa Parker stranded a Kentucky runner in the fifth to bring OU to its 28th run-rule win of the year.
