NORMAN — For the first time this season OU dropped a one-run ball game as No. 6 Arkansas (36-7, 11-6 SEC) outdueled the No. 1 Sooners (42-5, 14-3 SEC), 3-2, Saturday, April 18 at Love's Field.
Arkansas 3, Oklahoma 2
Arkansas scored first for the second game in a row, generating a 1-0 lead in the second after an infield hit from Kailey Wyckoff and an RBI double inside the first base bag by Kennedy Miller. The Razorbacks loaded the bases for Karlie Davison, but
Ella Parker robbed her of extra bases and potentially a home run with a catch at the top of the wall in right.
The pitchers and defenses for both sides took over in the middle innings. OU left fielder
Abby Dayton saved potential runs and extra bases in the top of the third, making a diving catch on an Ella McDowell flare down the left field line.
Sydney Berzon entered in the third inning and retired eight of the first nine batters she faced, holding Arkansas' lead to 1-0 until
Isabela Emerling tied the game with a 262-foot solo bomb to left center in the fifth.
Kasidi Pickering nearly followed with extra bases, but Arkansas' Reagan Johnson made a spectacular diving catch in right center to rob a hit.
Arkansas regained the lead on Tianna Bell's two-run homer in the sixth inning, her second roundtripper of the weekend series.
After fouling a few pitches away, freshman
Kendall Wells hooked a towering solo home run inside the left field foul pole, chasing starting pitcher Peyton Burnham. Friday night's starter, Robyn Herron, entered and set down every batter she faced to earn her fourth save of the year.
