NORMAN —
Kendall Wells hit three of OU's nine home runs as Oklahoma tallied a 1.054 slugging percentage for the day en route to run-rule wins against Sam Houston and Alabama State Saturday, Feb. 28.
Oklahoma (18-2) won 10-2 against Sam Houston (13-8) before scoring 21 runs in the third inning of a 29-6 win against Alabama State (6-16).
The Sooners made program history with the 21-run frame, which was good for second all-time in NCAA history for runs in an inning. Oklahoma sent 24 batters to the plate in that session, while
Lexi McDaniel and
Abby Dayton both hit grand slams.
OU 10, SAM HOUSTON 2 (5 INN.)
The Sooners scored at least one run in all but one inning to complete the run-rule win.
It was the freshmen that got the scoring starter as
Allyssa Parker homered to just left of dead center and
Kai Minor used her speed to score on a wild throw during her steal attempt of third base. Another first-year Sooner came through in the third when Wells dropped in an RBI single to right center, scoring
Kasidi Pickering.
Oklahoma generated four two-out RBIs on the day, with four of them coming in the fourth.
Abby Dayton sprayed a two-RBI double to the left center gap and Pickering golfed a two-run shot to the garden in center field.
Sam Houston pushed across two runs, but
Gabbie Garcia's shovel toss flip to
Ailana Agbayani keyed a spectacular inning-ending double play to close the threat in the fifth.
Wells carried that momentum into the fifth with a 279-foot monster bomb to right center. OU strung together two singles and four walks to walk-off in five frames.

OU 29, Alabama State 6 (5 inn.)
Alabama State took its first lead of the weekend with a grand slam in the first inning. That lead was short lived as OU scored five runs in the first inning on a Wells two-run homer, Minor RBI groundout and
Tia Milloy two-RBI base hit. Wells hit her third homer of the game to extend the lead to 6-4 in the second.
The Hornets hit their second homer of the game to get within one, but the Sooners unraveled the next 23 runs, 21 of which came in a third inning that featured 24 batters, two grand slams and a program-record run total. Outside of McDaniel and Dayton's grand slams,
Isabela Emerling and
Chaney Helton went yard.
Milloy and Helton padded their monster RBI totals for the weekend in the fourth and Alabama State scored one more in the fifth before OU won in five.
