LEXINGTON, Ky.– The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team took care of business on the road with a 197.550-196.475 victory over Kentucky Friday night inside Historic Memorial Coliseum.
A pair of Sooners shared the vault title with juniors Hannah Scheible and Keira Wells each sticking their vaults for matching 9.95s. Sophomore Addison Fatta took home the bars title with a 9.90 and senior Faith Torrez won beam with a 9.950.
OU opened the meet with a 49.200 on bars to Kentucky's 49.100 on vault. After an error in the leadoff spot, sophomore Lily Pederson came up clutch with a stuck dismount for a 9.825. Freshman Ella Murphy notched a 9.750 in the third spot before Fatta nailed her double layout dismount for a 9.90, the first of the rotation for the Sooners. Freshman Mackenzie Estep added a 9.875 and Torrez anchored with a 9.850.
A big 49.550 on vault had the Sooners ahead 98.750-98.125 at the halfway point. Pederson led off the rotation with a strong Yurchenko 1.5 for a 9.875, followed by a stuck 1.5 from Wells for a career high 9.95. Entered into the rotation after the touch warmup, Scheible drilled her front handspring pike half for a 9.95 in her first appearance in the vault lineup this season. Estep and sophomore Elle Mueller tallied matching 9.85s, and Fatta anchored with a 9.925.
The Sooners used a 49.325 on floor to extend the lead to 148.075-147.125. Leading off her second rotation in a row, Pederson notched a 9.850, followed by back-to-back 9.875s from Murphy and freshman Kamila Pawlak. Fatta notched a 9.775 in the No. 4 spot before a 9.875 from Mueller. Estep, anchoring floor for the first time this season, tallied a 9.850 to close out the rotation.
A 49.325 on beam secured the victory for the Sooners. Fatta looked poised in the leadoff position, sticking her dismount for a 9.875 to start the final rotation. Wells get the sticks coming with a 9.90 in the No. 2 spot, followed by a 9.850 from Murphy. Pederson finally got the stick on her dismount for a season high 9.90. Mueller added a 9.750 in the No. 5 spot and Torrez anchored with a 9.950, her fourth straight mark of 9.95 or higher this season.
The Sooners return home for a Friday night clash with Alabama on Feb. 6. The 2025 national championship banner will be unveiled prior to the meet and the Sooners will welcome back former gymnasts for their annual alumni night.
