FORT WORTH –
Ryder Cowan is in the hunt for a win and a PGA Tour start as Oklahoma sits tied for eighth after 36 holes at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab.
Cowan holds solo third at 3-under par after leading the Sooners on Monday at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth. He trails Texas Tech's Connor Graham and Virginia's Ben James, who are tied for the lead at 4-under. The individual winner will earn a spot in the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour.
Seventh-ranked Oklahoma (T8, +11) posted the fourth-lowest round of the afternoon, a 4-over 284, and is tied for eighth, just four shots out of the top five. Virginia was the only team under par, finishing the day at 1-under and leading the field by three strokes through 36 holes.
Cowan (3, -3) is one back after posting rounds of 70 and 67 at the par-70 course. The junior got off to a rough start with two bogeys after beginning his day on hole 16. He was 3-over through 13 but bounced back with birdies on 11, 12, and 13 to get back to even for the round. The Edmond, Okla., native kept the momentum going in the afternoon, carding a bogey-free 67 with three birdies spread across his card. Cowan will look to clinch his first collegiate win on Tuesday and secure a professional debut.
Clark Van Gaalen (T13, +1) used rounds of 71 and 70 to finish the day at 1-over and tied for 13th. The Turlock, Calif., product was 2-under through 15 in the morning but a triple-bogey dropped him to a 71. He bounced back with an even-par 70 in the afternoon and remains in the mix for his fourth career top-10 finish and first career win.
Asher Whitaker (T49, +7), a 2022 Rolex AJGA All-American, made his season debut and is tied for 49th. PJ Maybank (T58, +8) and
Matthew Troutman (T67, +10) rounded out the Sooners' lineup.
Despite sitting in eighth, Oklahoma is ahead of or tied with four top-25 teams, including top-ranked Auburn and second-ranked Arizona State.
The Sooners tee off Tuesday morning in the final round and will aim for their 13th top-five finish in their last 14 regular season events.
