Men's Golf Shatters School Record, Sweeps Titles in Hawai'i

October 29, 2025 | Men's Golf

MAUI, Hawai'i – Behind a record-breaking performance, Oklahoma men's golf swept the team and individual titles Wednesday afternoon at the Ka'anapali Classic, closing the fall slate with its first win of the season and fourth straight championship at the event. The victory marked the 50th of Ryan Hybl's career as the 17th-year head coach became the 17th in Division I men's golf history to reach the milestone.

Oklahoma (1, -63) set a program record and posted the fifth-lowest 54-hole score vs. par in NCAA history with its 63-under 789 at Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course. The total shattered the school record by 16 shots as the Sooners became just the fourth team in NCAA history to record a 789 or better. Junior Ryder Cowan earned medalist honors, tying the program record with his 20-under 193.

The Sooners have now won the team title in each of their last five appearances at the par-71 Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course (2019, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) and produced three individual champions during that stretch. The victory also extended OU's streak of at least one tournament title to 16 consecutive semesters, the longest in program history.

OU fired rounds of 21-under, 26-under and 16-under to win the event by 12 shots. The team's 258 (-26) in the second round set a program record for the lowest round in school history. The Sooners carded a program-record 85 birdies across their five-player lineup and 117 total when including the three individuals competing unattached.

Cowan (1, -20) matched Chris Gotterup and Quade Cummins' school record with his 20-under 193 to secure his first career victory. He posted rounds of 65-62-67 to hold off the field and lead OU to the title. His 21 birdies led all players, and he recorded only three bogeys. The Edmond, Okla., native now owns one win, six top fives, 11 top-10 finishes and 18 top-20s in his career.

Jase Summy (T3, -18) returned to form at Ka'anapali, finishing tied for third after rounds of 62-67-66. His opening-round 62 (-9) made him one of just eight Sooners ever to record a 9-under round until Cowan matched the mark in Tuesday's second round to become the ninth.

Clark Van Gaalen (T7, -13), runner-up at last year's Ka'anapali Classic, shot even par in the first round before going 13-under over the final 36 holes to share seventh, earning his first top-10 finish of the season.

PJ Maybank III (T14, -10) and Asher Whitaker (T18, -9) both finished inside the top 20. For Whitaker, who played unattached, it marked his second straight top-20 finish in Hawai'i after placing 12th last year.

Matthew Troutman (-2) tied for 56th to round out the OU lineup, while Adam Anderson and Cameron Cheek competed unattached and tied for 94th and 99th, respectively.

The Sooners will train over the winter before opening the spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 9-11).
