Oklahoma Drops Quarterfinal Match to No. 4 Florida
April 25, 2026 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Oklahoma men's golf's run at the SEC Championship came to an end Saturday morning, as the seventh-seeded Sooners fell to second-seeded No. 4 Florida, 3-2, in the quarterfinals, matching last year's result against the Gators.
OU picked up points from All-Americans Jase Summy and Ryder Cowan but couldn't flip any of the other three matches after Florida seized early control and never trailed. The appearance marked Oklahoma's second straight trip to SEC match play in as many seasons.
Summy, the stroke play runner-up, rallied from 4-down through nine against Zack Swanwick and played holes 11-17 at 5-under to take a 1-up lead before the match was called. Cowan led Luke Poulter throughout and delivered a pivotal eagle on No. 15 to move 1-up when play was halted, securing OU's second point.
Summy and Cowan have now combined for 15 career match play victories while the rest of the OU roster is a combined 1-6-2 in match play for their careers.
The match was decided in the middle three pairings. True freshman Coltrane Mittag fell 5&4 to Jack Turner, Clark Van Gaalen dropped a 5&3 decision to Parker Sands and PJ Maybank III was defeated 3&2 by Matthew Kress as Florida clinched the victory.
Florida advances to face No. 2 Texas, while No. 1 Auburn meets No. 12 Ole Miss on the opposite side of the bracket.
Oklahoma now awaits its NCAA Regional destination, which will be announced during the NCAA Golf Selection Show on Golf Channel at noon CT on May 6. The Sooners have made 14 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and have advanced to the NCAA Championships every season since 2011.
