NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams begin the 2025 season at the Cowboy Preview on Friday morning at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla.
The men kick off with a 5K at 8:15 a.m., followed by the women competing in a 3K at 8:45 a.m. Eight athletes will compete for OU in the men's race and six on the women's side.
The Sooners welcome back five returners in the lineup for the women, including 2024 TFXCCCA Regional Athlete of the Year and NCAA Midwest Regional champion, Leah Jeruto, along with graduate student Megan Johnson, senior Erin O'Brien, and sophomores Mary Van Dyke and Abby Jepchirchir. Sophomore Mia McGlade joined the Sooners in the spring and is slated to make her cross country debut this weekend.
"The ladies are going into this meet riding a wave of excitement for the season ahead," head women's cross country coach Anna Bearss said. "Our goal is to embrace the race day emotions and nerves, but ultimately keep momentum bridled with focus on the build to November. It will be fun to put a starting point on the map, and I'm confident in this group's readiness for a strong debut."
On the men's side, Thobias Cheruiyot, who earned All-SEC Second Team status and qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships last season, returns in 2025, along with juniors Sam Boyer and Joshua Cherry and senior Logan Seger. Five runners will make their OU debuts, including graduate transfer Adrian Stuphan and junior transfer Hayden Gray. Freshmen Evans Biwott and Ronald Ngetich, who competed in the spring track and field season, will make their collegiate cross country debuts.
"We're excited to head up to Stillwater tomorrow for the Cowboy Preview and kick off our 2025 season," said head men's cross country coach Jay Weaver. "All we're looking for tomorrow is a solid workout effort to get the legs moving as we continue to prepare for the big races coming up in late September, October and November."
Oklahoma's men's team enters the season ranked fifth in the SEC, fourth regionally and 29th nationally, while the women rank fourth in the SEC and fifth regionally.
