STILLWATER, Okla. ā The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by OSU, Saturday morning. Grabbing two top-12 finishes for the Sooners, freshman Domtila Cheruto finished 11th in the women's 6K, while sophomore Ronald Ngetich finished 12th in the men's 8K.
The 88th edition of the Jamboree drew an impressive field, including No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 New Mexico and No. 3 BYU. Following Cheruto in the 6K, Sanae Hassnaoui crossed the line second for the Sooner women, finishing in 20:48.7 for 18th place. Next came Sarafina Kibet in 31st (21:17.3) and Hasnae Goulamzi in 45th (21:36.2), while Mary Van Dyke finished 86th (22:55.5) to round out the scorers.
Ngetich paced the Sooner men, finishing the 8K in 23:56.8 for 12th place. The next Sooner to cross the line was Hayden Gray (25:41.4), followed by Hamza Belkhalfi (26:48.7) and Joshua Cherry (26:50.6).
The Sooner men return to action Oct. 9 in Madison, Wi., for the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational. The women take action the week after, with select athletes competing at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 16, while the rest of the women return to Stillwater for the Weis-Crockett Invitational the following morning.Ā
