STILLWATER, Okla. ā The Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2026 season Saturday morning in Stillwater, Okla., at the Cowboy Preview. Freshman Domtila Cheruto finished first in the women's 3K while Sarafina Kibet followed to secure third. Junior Thobias Cheruiyot finished second in the men's 5K, and sophomore Ronald Ngetich followed closely behind to finish fourth.Ā
Both teams finished second behind Oklahoma State, the men securing 55 points while the women tallied 61.Ā
Oklahoma veteran Cheruiyot put up a strong lead for the majority of the course, posting a 15:02.6 to finish second, while Ngetich clocked 15:14.0 for a fourth-place finish. The next Sooner to cross the line was junior Hayden Gray at 15:34.1, followed by Austin Popplewell at 15:57.1. Hamza Belkhalfi and Joshua Cherry rounded out the OU men, finishing in 16:45.2 and 17:05.2, respectively.
Cheruto earned her first XC victory, clocking a 10:04.2 while Kibet secured third in 10:27.5. Junior Abby Jepchirchir was the next Sooner to cross at 11:04.9, followed by a personal best time of 11:20.0 from junior Mary Van Dyke. Junior Mia McGlade rounded out scoring for the Sooners, finishing in 11:48.3.
