Sooners Sweep Tulsa Wednesday Night

NORMAN – The No. 12 Oklahoma men's tennis team topped Tulsa Wednesday night at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners took a 1-0 lead on the Golden Hurricane in doubles to head into singles with a lead. Courts two and three won their matches at the same time, with Kholo Montsi and Luis Alvarez winning 6-0 at the two spot and Asahi Harazaki and Jordan Hasson taking a 6-1 victory at the three line. When doubles play was stalled, Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene were trailing 2-4 on court one.

Hasson was first to begin a second set for OU after he took a 6-2 lead over Nikola Puntaric. Soon to follow was Montsi, who fell behind 3-6 in the first set. Lacides also dropped the first set, heading into the second set trailing 2-6. Nhavene went up 3-0 to begin the first set, but Tulsa's Connor Doig tied the set at four-games-all. Nhavene took the set 6-4 before moving into the second set. Alvarez and Orel Kimhi also had tied scores at four all before Alvarez dropped the set, 5-7 and Kimhi went into set two with a 6-4.

The Sooners were in close competition with the Golden Hurricane, splitting sets on four courts. 

Montsi claimed OU's first singles point, dominating the second and third sets of his match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. Nhavene's second set was tightly matched and ultimately went into a tiebreak, where he won the match, 6-4, 7-6(6) to give OU a 3-0 lead.

Hasson clinched the match for the Sooners at the five line, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

Kimhi brought home OU's fifth point, winning 6-4, 7-5. Lacides was soon to follow, playing a hard-fought match, that went to a third set. He claimed the victory 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(2) to earn the sixth point. 

Alvarez was the final Sooner off the court, winning in a third-set tiebreak, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(5) to round out the 7-0 final.

UP NEXT

The Sooners take go on their first road trip to face No. 9 San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. CT. OU's first conference will be on their home courts against Arkansas on Monday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. CT.
