Peggy Whaley joined Oklahoma Athletics in October 1995 and currently serves as the Administrative Coordinator for Marketing and Promotion.
 
In this role, she coordinates and manages the 70-year-old spirit camps for OU and Varsity Spirit Corporation and manages the marketing office.
 
Prior to her role as Administrative Coordinator, she served as the Director of Precollegiate Programs for OU Teach, formerly the OU College of Continuing Education, from July 1987 to August 2006. In that role, she coordinated and managed the programs for precollege students, ACT Prep courses, Model UN, math and science academies, Horizons Unlimited, Spirit Camps, and the 2000 National Junior Classical League conference. She successfully managed a budget of approximately $1 million and managed grants for the department.
 
Simultaneously with that role, she served as the Spirit Coordinator for OU Cheer from October 1995 to August 1998. In that role, she coordinated travel to away games and NCA National Championships, where the coed team finished second in 1996 and 1997 and the all girl squad finished second in 1998. She scheduled special appearances, performances and summer camps; oversaw uniform selection and fundraising and managed the budget.
 
Whaley earned an Associate’s Degree from El Reno Junior College, now Redlands Community College in 1975. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in business administration with a minor in recreational leadership from Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in 1978 and earned her Master’s Degree in health, physical education and recreation from SWOSU in 1979. She played basketball through junior college and was a cheerleader in junior college and at SWOSU.
 
Her family in the Norman area includes her husband, Mike Whaley, a former head coach at Mangum HS, assistant coach at SWOSU, Blanchard HS and Westmoore HS, and associate director at OSSAA. He retired in July 2023. Her daughter, Mary Beth Braggs, is an instructional technology designer for the OU K20 Center; her son-in-law, Spencer Braggs, is the senior principal at Southmoore HS, and she loves spending time with her granddaughter, Avereigh.
 
A Union City, OK, native, she grew up on a 160-acre farm that her great-grandfather homesteaded during the Land Run. She took piano lessons for 14 years and has played piano and organ in church since, at First Baptist Church Union City, organ at FBC Mangum, and now plays piano for the praise band at FBC Blanchard. She has taught group fitness classes for 41 years at various places, and currently at OU Fitness, Gold’s Gym, and Crunch Fitness, and loves reading.
 
She and her husband live east of Blanchard on 2+ acres with their four labs – Ike, Mamie, Bess and Chester – and cat, Otis.
