Max Krieger joined Oklahoma Athletics in August 2021 and now serves as the Director of Football Academics and the advisor for OU Women’s Basketball.
In this role, he oversees academics for Football and Women’s Basketball, monitors academic eligibility and progress toward degree, assists with major declaration, class schedules and academic support, and meets with perspective Student-Athletes during their recruiting visits to OU.
Since taking on oversight of academics with OU Football, the program has seen tremendous growth academically. Krieger has helped the Football program obtain both the highest semester GPA and the highest cumulative GPA in program history three consecutive semesters in a row. He has also helped OU Football maintain a GPA above 3.0 for four consecutive semesters.
Prior to Oklahoma, Krieger served as an Academic Counselor at the University of Arizona. In that role, he oversaw academics for women’s basketball, women’s tennis, beach and indoor volleyball, and men’s track. During his time at the U of A, Krieger helped the Women’s Basketball program, Women’s Tennis program and the Beach Volleyball program achieve their highest GPAs at the time.
A former Division I wrestler at Iowa State University, Krieger earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology & Health with a focus in Exercise Science during his time as a cyclone. He also earned his Master’s degree in Adult & Higher Education with a focus in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration from the University of Oklahoma. While earning his master’s degree, Krieger served as an Academic Mentor Graduate Assistant at Oklahoma.
Krieger is active in the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A). He currently serves as the Division Director for Academic Services. In the role, he oversees both the Academic Programs & Practices Committee and the Learning Concerns and Enhancement Committee. In November of 2022, Krieger completed N4A’s Steve McDonnell Professional Development Institute (PDI) Leader/Manager Track. Following that, in June of 2023, Krieger was awarded N4A’s Kenneth O. Miles Professional Promise Award, which honors "new" professionals who serve Student-Athletes and have dedicated their energy to the Association and its mission.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending free time with his wife, Ryne, daughter, Grey, and two dogs, Lola and Nelly, exploring Norman & Oklahoma City.
