Kathy Shaw joined Oklahoma Athletics in the spring of 2022 and serves as the Director of Planning, Research & Evaluation.

In this role, she is the director of the GRIT program, utilizes diagnostic assessment to identify opportunities for academic growth, and leads & trains mentors who work with OU student-athletes.

Prior to Oklahoma, she was the Director of Instructional Coaches for Epic Chapter Schools from August 2016 to March 2022. In that role, she led a team of 15 instructional coaches to coach and support teachers at the largest public school in Oklahoma. During her time at Epic, she also held the titles of Director of Teacher Development and K-12 Educator.

Prior to Epic Charter Schools, she served as a Title I Literacy Coach for Moore West Junior High from August 2009 to May 2016. In that role, she established their Title I federal program, provided professional development to help teachers reach & teach all students. She earned Teacher of the Year in 2014, Top 5 District Teacher of the Year Finalist in 2014, and the Pat Henry Award in 2016.

Prior to Moore West, she served as the Reading Improvement Coordinator for Student-Athletes at the University of Oklahoma from October 2007 to July 2009. In that role, she coordinated curriculum and skill focus for tutors, planned & implemented individualized lesson plans and created a handbook for the Reading Improvement Program.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in dance with minors in English and secondary education from Sam Houston State in 1999. She earned her Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership of Academic Curriculum with an emphasis in reading from the University of Oklahoma in 2010.
